2027 Lexus NX Hybrid: What's New, Trims, and Key Changes
The 2027 Lexus NX moves to a fully electrified lineup, with every grade offered in Hybrid, NX 350h, or Plug-in Hybrid, NX 450h+, form. The PHEV variant adds a newly developed lithium-ion battery with manufacturer-estimated over 40 miles of EV range on select grades, a 30% increase in capacity over the prior battery. This page covers every major change by section, along with information about upcoming 2027 NX availability at Lexus of Riverside.
WHAT'S NEW FOR 2027
The single biggest shift for 2027 is the elimination of non-electrified NX grades. Every configuration is now either a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, and the NX 450h+ PHEV is the headliner of that move, bringing DC fast charging and a Power Charge Port Door as standard equipment.
Beyond the powertrain, the 2027 NX introduces a next-generation e-Axle assembly that integrates the transaxle, motor, and Power Control Unit into a more compact package. Silicon carbide, SiC, power semiconductors replace conventional units in the inverter, improving efficiency throughout the system. The battery cell layout on the PHEV has been changed from a longitudinal to a transverse arrangement, which increases lateral body rigidity and lowers the center of gravity simultaneously.
On the chassis side, body rigidity has been increased through a new floor cross member and additional reinforcement along the tunnel ridge. Suspension towers were redesigned with integrated structural components. Grades without an Adaptive Variable Suspension now get newly developed shock absorbers with ultra-low-speed valves, enabling damping response to even minor road inputs.
The steering wheel shrinks by 0.4 inches to 14.2 inches in diameter, and Variable Rack Gear steering with a more responsive variable ratio is now standard on all grades. A new brake control system applies subtle cornering braking to stabilize yaw and roll during sharp maneuvers.
Exterior updates include a redesigned grille with mesh construction, headlamps with a dual-line DRL signature, and Lexus' first Double L Signature on the rear combination lamps. Chrome mirror and molding finishes give way to black accents across the lineup. Two new exterior colors, Shaded Ivy and the F SPORT-exclusive Incognito, join the nine-color palette for 2027.
Inside, the 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen is now standard on every grade rather than reserved for upper trims. A standard Drive Recorder uses the vehicle's own exterior cameras as an integrated dashcam. Sensory Concierge, a multisensory system coordinating lighting, sound, and fragrance, is newly available on Luxury and F SPORT grades.
Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 replaces the prior generation and is standard on all grades.

All four grades are also available as the NX 450h+ PHEV. The PHEV powertrain is paired exclusively with AWD on every grade. The NX 450h+ adds a newly developed lithium-ion battery with 8% higher output and 30% greater capacity than the outgoing unit, DC fast charging, and a Power Charge Port Door as standard equipment. Manufacturer-estimated EV range is over 40 miles on select grades, though official EPA ratings are not yet available.
NX 450H+ PREMIUM+
The NX 450h+ Premium+ builds on the plug-in hybrid foundation with the same newly developed battery, standard DC fast charging, Power Charge Port Door, and AWD-only configuration. Full grade-specific details will be published closer to the on-sale date.
NX 450H+ F SPORT
The NX 450h+ F SPORT combines the plug-in hybrid system with the F SPORT exterior treatment, AWD-only layout, Incognito paint availability, Radiant Red interior availability, and available Sensory Concierge.
NX 450H+ LUXURY
The NX 450h+ Luxury pairs the PHEV powertrain with Luxury-grade cabin appointments, available Sensory Concierge, available Mark Levinson premium audio, standard AWD, and the over-40-mile manufacturer-estimated EV range on select grades.
PERFORMANCE & POWERTRAIN
Both NX configurations share the Lexus Hybrid Drive architecture built around a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with electric motor-generators. The system uses an ECVT with paddle shifters.
The new e-Axle integrates the transaxle, motor, and PCU into a single compact assembly, reducing weight and lowering the center of gravity. SiC power semiconductors in the inverter improve energy conversion efficiency. Battery power management has been reworked so that greater electric assistance during acceleration suppresses unnecessary engine rpm spikes, creating a more linear relationship between throttle input and vehicle speed.
The redesigned engine block includes reinforced casting between the engine and transaxle, shifting resonance away from combustion frequencies and reducing noise and vibration.
The E-Four electronic AWD system on AWD-equipped grades has been revised with updated rear motor control that enables continuous AWD operation during launch, cornering, wheel slip, and straight-line driving. The always-active AWD engagement improves confidence on low-traction surfaces.
The NX 450h+ PHEV uses the same base architecture with an expanded lithium-ion battery in a transverse cell layout. DC fast charging is standard on all PHEV grades. Official EPA fuel economy and EV range figures for both configurations will be published closer to the on-sale date.

INTERIOR, COMFORT & CARGO

The 2027 NX seats five and was redesigned around a horizontal theme that creates a wider, more open feel throughout the cabin.
The instrument panel aligns the 12.3-inch digital cluster and the 14-inch touchscreen along a single horizontal axis, keeping the driver's sightline naturally focused toward the road. Ambient lighting runs continuously from the instrument panel through to the door trim, reinforcing the horizontal layout and adding depth to the interior.
The steering wheel has been reduced to 14.2 inches in diameter, a 0.4-inch reduction, and its telescopic adjustment range has been expanded based on big data analysis of driver seating positions. Responsive Hidden Switches with translucent surface panels replace conventional switch gear on the center console and door panels.
Interior color choices expand to five options for 2027, including two new additions. Abalos, inspired by the sand dunes of Mars' northern hemisphere, is a composed and vivid tone available across grades. Radiant Red is exclusive to F SPORT models.
On grades with the available Mark Levinson audio system, perforated metal speaker grilles and an illuminated ring around each door speaker contribute to the premium feel of the interior. The overall cabin design targets a relaxed, open atmosphere for all five occupants.
TECHNOLOGY & INFOTAINMENT
The 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen is now standard on every 2027 NX grade, a change from prior model years when smaller screens appeared on base configurations. The system supports split-screen viewing, Cloud Navigation with real-time data, and a smartphone-like interface for navigation, audio, and vehicle settings.
The standard Drive Recorder uses the vehicle's own exterior cameras to record video clips tied to manual or triggered events, eliminating the need for an aftermarket dashcam.
Available connected services include Remote Connect, remote start, lock/unlock, vehicle status via the Lexus app, Safety Connect, 24/7 SOS response center, Service Connect, vehicle health alerts and maintenance scheduling, and Wi-Fi Connect, 5G hotspot for up to five devices, 30-day unlimited trial included. A five-year Remote Connect trial is included for the 2027 model year.
The Intelligent Assistant responds to "Hey Lexus" voice commands for temperature, navigation, and audio. Traffic Jam Assist, available through a Drive Connect subscription, adds temporary hands-free steering assistance in slow, condensed highway traffic. Lane Change Assist extends Lane Tracing Assist to perform automated lane changes under defined conditions.
Digital Key supports smartphone-based vehicle access and allows owners to share access through compatible digital wallets.
Sensory Concierge, available on Luxury and F SPORT grades, adds a coordinated multisensory layer to the cabin. It operates across three modes and incorporates three selectable fragrances, Shinmei, citrus, Seiyo, white floral, and Hanya, musk, that can be used independently or paired with coordinated lighting, sound, and climate settings.

SAFETY & DRIVER ASSISTANCE

Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 is standard on all 2027 NX grades, replacing the previous-generation system. LSS+ 4.0 uses a camera and millimeter-wave radar combination for broader detection coverage and expanded situational awareness compared to its predecessor.

WHO IT'S FOR VS. THE PRIOR YEAR
The 2027 NX is built for buyers who want a luxury compact crossover with a fully electrified powertrain. For shoppers who drove or researched the 2026 NX, the 2027 model is a meaningful step forward rather than a minor refresh. The shift to a 100% electrified lineup eliminates the non-hybrid option, which narrows the choice to HEV or PHEV rather than gasoline or hybrid. Buyers prioritizing daily EV driving without range anxiety will find the NX 450h+ PHEV's over-40-mile estimate and DC fast charging particularly relevant, especially for commuters in areas like Riverside and the surrounding Inland Empire where highway driving is common.
Buyers who want the hybrid without plug-in complexity will find the NX 350h delivers the same next-generation drivetrain refinements, including the e-Axle, SiC semiconductors, and always-on AWD, without the added battery size of the PHEV.
The chassis and suspension updates, the standardized 14-inch screen, and the addition of LSS+ 4.0 across all grades mean even the entry Premium grade receives improvements that were either unavailable or limited to upper trims on the prior model year. Those who found the 2026 NX's base technology or ride refinement lacking have clear reasons to move to the 2027.
